Moscow-based Alfa Logistics has organized the trans-shipment of a tunnel-boring machine (TBM) from the Le Creusot, France, headquarters of NFM Technologies to Kazan in the Russian republic of Tatarstan. The cargo will land at Rostov from where it will be on shipped to Kazan, where it will used for tunneling the extension to the Kazan subway.
This 5.89m diameter Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) TBM was designed for the subway line 1 extension in Kazan, following on from the initial order in 2005 for the subway.
“The first machine was chosen quite by chance,” said Marat Rakhimov, director of Kazmetrostroy, the authority in charge of the construction of the subway. “This machine was chosen from experience.”
Alfa Logistics is transporting the machine, which has been given a Tatar girl’s name meaning “as beautiful as the moon” from Le Creusot at the beginning of August on its journey to the work site, where it is expected to arrive at the end of September.

I took this shot from the river boat Creole Queen in New Orleans. I have always loved this city. We were visiting the city for the 20th BreakBulk Conference and Exhibition which was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The 21st BreakBulk Conference and Exhibition will be in Houston, Texas, so we tried to see as much of New Orleans as we could.
Following an earlier announcement of Peters & May Ltd.’s acquisition of U.K.-based performance yacht and motor boat logistics provider, Complete Freight Ltd., the company also revealed an exclusive agency agreement with Oceanbridge Shipping Ltd. of New Zealand. The agreement covers the marine sector of Oceanbridge Shipping’s businesses and commenced on May 25th 2009.

On making the announcement, Peters & May’s managing director Jan Rydgren-Knudsen, said: “We are very happy to announce this tie up with Oceanbridge Shipping, a company with an expanding portfolio of clients that has proven itself to be dynamic and most professional – qualities that mirror the philosophy and ideals of Peters & May.”

The Global Project Logistics Network (GPLN) announced that it has been admitted to the American based Specialized Carriers and Riggers Association (SC&RA).
“We are very proud to be a part of SC&RA,” said Gary Dale Cearley, Executive Director of GPLN, “I know it sounds funny that a network would join an association but from our perspective it makes total sense. This is a group of project specialists at the end of the day and we are very serious about the industry so we should take our place beside them.”
Cearley went on to explain the difference in the type organizations the two are. “GPLN is a network and SC&RA is an association,” said Cearley, “GPLN focuses on promoting business between the members, building a common brand and promoting our members directly at conferences and exhibitions around the world. An association helps to develop and promote an industry as a whole rather than a group of like minded companies within an industry.”

French company Sifa Projets has successfully moved an entire coating plant from the Indian Ocean island of Reunion to the European port of Antwerp. The job took 19 days, beginning on June 11 and ending on June 30.
The plant, operated by Appia, was located in Saint-Leu in the west of Réunion. Using specialized low-bed trucks, Sifa transported 32 loads from the jobsite to Réunion’s Pointe des Galets port., crossing many high bridges on the way through the island’s dramatic terrain.
The heaviest load was 71 tons in a volume of 330 cubic meters, while other major loads of 50 tons and 35 tons were also carried. Sifa chartered 4000 cubic meters on a roll-on roll-off vessel to ship the
plant from Pointe des Galets to Antwerp.
GPLN members Trans-Trading GmbH, Hamburg and UTM Projects & Logistics Pty. Ltd., Brisbane have jointly secured the transport of 68 locomotives each weighing 132 tons, from Mannheim, Germany up to placed on to rail at the Brisbane Multimodal Terminal, Brisbane, Australia.
The locomotives, manufactured in Munich, were transported from Munich by low loaders to Mannheim where GPLN member Trans-Trading GmbH received them. “Due to height restrictions along the route to Mannheim, the locomotives arrived with a temporary roof which was replaced with the actual roof, including a pantograph, upon arrival at the heavy lift terminal in Mannheim,” said Thorsten Reinke, Hamburg branch manager of Trans-Trading, Once permanent roofs were assembled, the locomotives, two per lot, were shipped by river barge to Bremerhaven. Once in Bremerhaven, the locomotives were lifted out of the river barge using mobile cranes and were loaded on to Ro-Ro vessels for direct shipment to Brisbane.
Upon arrival in Brisbane, the locomotives were pulled off the vessel using an eight-axle hydraulic trailer and were delivered to the Brisbane Multimodal Terminal (BMT). At the BMT, a trailer with a locomotive is driven underneath a lifting system and locomotives are lowered on to rail. “The challenges in Brisbane included, but were not limited to, the coordination of the tides as locomotives can only come down the vessel’s ramp during low tide,” said Peter Schweizer, managing director of UTM Projects & Logistics. “Also we had to coordinate transport with port security and the BMT operator in order to make certain deliveries did not interfere with regular train operations at the BMT.”
With the arrival of the first Pacific National locomotive in May 2009 the second stage of this massive project has started. So far, a total of 27 locomotives have been delivered without any delays and to the
fullest satisfaction of the customer, Schweizer said..
Jeena & Co. has succeeded in bringing about the first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding a business cooperation between an Indian port and an overseas counterpart.
The MoU was signed between Jeena, Chennai Port and the Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, earlier this year. Jeena acts as ambassador for the Port of Halifax and played a key role in initiating
and organizing an MOU for sister port cooperation, which Jeena believes create a new era of mutual understanding.
The MoU is evidence of the steps that Jeena is taking to maintain strong growth in a time of general economic certainty, the company has said. Other moves include strengthening its international network by
placing an Indian representative in China by tying up with one of the largest Chinese logistics companies, Cargo Services. Zubin Davar, Jeena delegate to China, will be taking up this responsibility from
July 2009. This partnership will also cover another important market like Hong Kong.

ECS Project Cargo, part of the ECS Group now has a new website which showcases its special skills. The Spanish company has extensive experience in logistics and special projects, and offer logistic services and storage, planning and carrying out all operations required for loading and unloading of goods from ships.

Titan Logistics recently completed a couple of heavy-duty jobs in Singapore, covering both infrastructure and leisure projects.
The first was the lifting of the luxury boat Braveheart at Jurong Port. Carried out for Coli Shipping & Transport Group, the job entailed lifting the 430-ton 40-meter-long Braveheart from the transport vessel Lena. The rigging, weighing 84 tons, had to be taken into account because of the boat’s soft hull.
A 1600-ton Sheerleg Crane Barge was used to discharge the boat from the vessel. The smaller crane barges could not perform the job due to their limited hook-height. Titan personnel were involved in planning, rigging design and execution of the job together with the technical department of SAL Shipping, the captain and superintendent of the vessel, Coli Shipping. Boat was discharged safely from the vessel to the waters off Jurong Port, Singapore.
The second job was the transportation of a rail-grinding vehicle for Singapore Mass Rapid Transport (SMRT) for the island’s MRT network. The rail-grinding vehicle consisted of a three-car configuration, with the heaviest car at 45 tons. The units were transported from the port of Singapore to the MRT Depot at Kim Chuan, and later relocated to Bishan Depot.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has signed a three-year warehousing and distribution service agreement for eastern and central Saudi Arabia with Alcatel Lucent. The contract requires 5500 square meters of open and closed storage with distribution of materials for mobile telecommunications signal relay stations across eastern Saudi Arabia. This entails storage and distribution of out-of-gauge masts plus the delicate handling of sensitive and high-value electric housing units and associated components. WSS Saudi won this contract against leading international and domestic service providers based on us being able to provide a flexible and highly responsive service offering covering all areas of the storage and distribution cycle.
WSS has been trading in Saudi Arabia for over 30 years. Wilhelmsen Ships Service is involved in a number of ongoing major infrastructure projects such as a cement plant relocation to Rabigh, Manifa causeway construction, as well as the commercially vital Ras Al Zour port construction.
Transportas has played a key part in StatOil Hydro’s environmentally pioneering Hywind project. Hywind is the world’s first full-scale floating wind turbine, which will float on seas of depths between be
placed at ocean depths of between 120 and 700 meters. The floating structure consists of a steel jacket filled with ballast.
This floating element will extend 100 meters beneath the surface and will be fastened to the seabed by three anchor piles. The mooring equipment, crucial to the safe continued operation of the project, is
extremely heavy, and Transportas was involved in shipping bundles of chains from China to Norway, anchors from the Nertherlands, and reels from Italy.

Sea Cargo Air Cargo Logistics Inc. (SCACLI) and AST Ltd. have recently shipped a boiler of 230 tons door-to-door from Ontario Canada to Antalya, Turkey.

“The boiler started its journey from Ontario, Canada, to Halifax by rail,” said Laurent Montignon, managing director of SCACLI, “The loading onto rail car took place with temperatures close to 30 degree below zero C!”

The module was successfully loaded on board a part chartered vessel to Spliethoff and within three weeks AST ensured the receiving and a smooth delivery of the equipment to the job site at destination.

Rohde & Liesenfeld Canada recently used Celtic Forwarding’s help in discharging Ireland bound cargo. The freight, consisting of 18 heavy lifts 26 m x 3.6 m x 2 m ranging from 50,000 kg to 70,000 kg, originated from Thailand to and was shipped to Cork in the South part of Ireland.

“The port did not have the cranage to offload so Celtic sourced the mobile LG 500 in England to discharge the ship,” said Finbarr Cleary of Celtic Forwarding, “There was no crane available in Ireland to offload the cargo of this size and weight.”


Dubai based and GPLN member Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) has a tricky transfer of a yacht (36.5 x 7.8 x 9.5 Meters, weight 150MT) from Jebel Ali, in the United Arab Emirates to Aqaba, Jordan.
“The yacht had to be lifted from the water,” said Usman Ahmed, ISS Project Supervisor, “But the most difficult part was the COG / lifting points of the yacht were not available. It took long time to finalize the COG using two cranes with the help of divers. Finally, upon safe lifting we moved the yacht to the berth and moved the nominated vessel fwd and loaded the yacht safely.”

Saudi Arabia GPLN member Almajdouie Heavy Lift Transport and Engineering secured a mega contract for transportation of super heavy and oversize evaporators module from Bilfal Heavy Industry (Ex-Works Yard) to Marafiq IWPP Project Site Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
The Marafiq Desalination plant will be one of the largest water desalination processing plants in the world. The execution of Project is ongoing where Almajdouie Heavy Lift (ALMADOUIE HEAVYLIFT) and Almajdouie PSC Heavylift (MPSC) are jointly utilizing their expertise in moving such heaviest units by Self Propelled Module Trailers (SPMT’s) trailers.
“In total we handled 18 units and out of these 9 units were locally manufactured by Bilfal of Saudi Arabia and remaining unit were manufactured in Korea and UAE,” said Izaz Ahmed Watangi, Vice President Logistics of Almadouie, “It is worth to mention that we were also engaged in loadout of some units in the United Arab Emirates as well.”
Huge evaporators are very important for the project. Each evaporator is of 1810 tons in weight, 65 meters length, 22 meters width & 13 meters height.
We used 84 axles of latest generation Self Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMT). The General Manager Mr. Mark Brereton Stuart set this in a 42 axle side by side configuration. This type of equipment was the only way to handle such large and heavy loads, along a combination of public and private roads.
Almadouie PSC has a team of specially trained operators for SPMT operation, supported by a highly experienced operations team headed by Ely Coyoca, International Operations Manager, who is in the field for the last 25 years who have been involved in some of the largest moves in the region and the wider World. This team worked seamlessly with the Almadouie PSC team in Dammam to jointly provide all the services and expertise to carry out the transportations, particularly for the Bilfal units.
The major obstacle for the Bilfal units, was that the initial conclusion was that they could not be moved by road. Almadouie PSC was called in by Bilfal to verify on the situation as the responsible wanted to make sure the massive loads reach in time safely. Almadouie PSC carry eminent know-how in such movements and ultimately concluded saying that “it is a highly complex move but it is possible”. Since the project were in the eastern region Almadouie PSC engineering unit extended their support by conducting thorough studies and by preparing and analyzing stuff right from bidding stage till the final approval of relevant technical documents. In many areas route modifications were needed, including residential areas from the approach roads to the site. Required route modifications were:
- Hard trimming of more than 400 trees in a residential area that had to be maintained throughout the project duration
- Removal and replacement of 108 light posts, and there replacement within strict time windows dictated by the security police.
- Crossing of TS-1 major highway, twice. The second crossing was at a very rarely used crossing place. We had to survey and simulate this crossing meter by meter in order to verify that the SPMT’s could pass safely across.
- Removal and replacement within the same day of three sets of signal lights for each move.
- Propping of three bridges for the duration of the project.
Each move involved several agencies. The Royal Commission had a vital role in firstly studying and working with us to find the solutions to move by road, this involved very special permissions to carry to the work in the above list, and in general to encroach in residential areas with a cargo of this size. It was essential to obtained written permission from Saudi Electric Company, Saudi Telecom Co. and Marafiq existing underground facilities. At the same time the support of local Police and security greatly lend a hand in regards of the safe crossing of the cargo through the very busy TS-1 highway, and in general providing safety and security where needed. We also used several subcontractors for work to prepare the route and handle the street fixtures stated above.
Operation team along with Mr. Ely and Mr. Asif Batt said on average each delivery would take two days to travel the 9 km to site, which is exactly as planned. However, after several moves arrival at the site was also completed in one day, which is a testament to the organization of all the relevant agencies, the quality of the equipment, and the skill of the operators.

MPSC is now at the forefront of the movement of super heavy loads throughout the region. We have been involved in moves of up to 5,000 tons and moved more than 30 items over 1,000 tons in the past two years, in countries all over the Middle East, but particularly KSA and UAE. We have also carried out the Tower lift of several vessels up to 1,100 tons during the same period. We are now one of the leaders in the Middle East in our industry, and we have expanded our equipment fleet and profile in the region, leading to the award of key projects that will allow the companies further growth in the coming years.

Transportas Internationale Spedition recently moved a big paper mill project of about 20,000 freight tons from Southern Germany to Kings Lynn at the East coast of United Kingdom.

The entire project consisted of about 80 normal truck loads, 65 oversized and heavy load trailers and 14 pieces which had to be shipped in combined transport truck, river barge, coaster vessel and truck due to the maximum width up to 7.50 m and height of the biggest pieces were 5.40 m in combination with the maximum weight of 125 tons.

“Transportas organized transportation from factory via the various routes which have been necessary out of cargo´s physics up to just in sequence delivery to the jobsite,” said Claudio Blasizzo, managing director of Transportas Internationale Spedition, “The main challenge for the oversized cargo was that the main road through the whole city of Kings Lynn had to be closed and authorities and officials only allowed us during the nights from Saturday to Sunday. Also there were twelve traffic lights and other traffic related establishments that had to be removed.”

GPLN member The Freight Company Beijing (TFC Beijing) recently signed a service and quality management agreement with Holcim China for two cement plants with a total procurement volume of approximately USD 650 million.
One of the cement plants is for Fez, Morocco, and the other is for Garadgh, Azerbaijan. Both plants will be shipped from China starting in May of 2009 and the deliveries will last for approximately 14 months.
“One of the key factors for The Freight Company to be able to sign this agreement was the positive experience with Holcim China on a prior project of shipping a grinding mill to Tanga, Tanzania, which is about to be completed,” said Denis Schmid, managing director of The Freight Company Beijing.
Both projects will be handled by Mr. Thomas Ofner, sales manager of TFC Beijing.

5K Logistics has successfully managed the transport of a new engineered combination of a process gas boiler and its companion steam drum as a completed “piggyback” unit. These new units were manufactured by Deltak Corporation in Minneapolis, Minnesota for their customer Selas Processing Fluid Corporation in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.
The units were delivered via a combination rail/truck to the Linde Process Plants facilities at the CITGO refinery in Romeoville, Illinois, and the Marc West refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. The piggyback designed units were delivered with an actual height of 17’7” and an actual weight of 141,300 lbs. For the Romeoville facility and a height of 14’2” and actual weight of 108,000 lbs. to the Corpus Christie facility.
5K Logistics devised and executed the transportation plan in cooperation with the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads to move these two units together by rail from Deltak in Plymouth, Minnesota. The rail shipments were routed on the Union Pacific Railroad and BN Railroad systems to a nearby rail spur and offloaded to a Goldhofer truck to complete the shipment to the jobsite.
Typically these units are shipped separately due to the excessive height restrictions. These shipments were the largest design component ever shipped piggyback style by Selas Fluid Processing which resulted in a major cost savings for transport and field installation related expenditures.
“Shipping these units as a piggyback unit saved the customer a considerable amount of money as well as increased the installation efficiency at the job site”, says Paul McGrath, President 5K Logistics. 5-K Logistics, Selas Fluid Processing, Linde Process Plants, Deltak Corporation, Union Pacific Railroad, Burlington Northern Railroad, CN Railroad and Imperial Crane Corporation worked together for the past eight months in developing the transport plan for delivery to both of the sites. According to Mr. McGrath this truly was a total team transport effort and was executed with precision!
5K Logistics is an international project logistics provider and a GPLN member headquartered in Warminster, Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) Pennsylvania with other offices and warehouses in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Chicago based GPLN member BDG International proved that project cargo isn’t always about size! During a standard export shipment from Peru to Canada, space was tight from Lima to Los Angeles International Airport. Only 786 kgs, the pallet of mining supply parts was urgent to be received in Canada and install in a machine that was already shut down.

At first the shipper was looking at standard service from Lima to Edmonton International Airport. Each day the cargo was delayed and there did not seem to be any space on the Lan Chile flights northbound via Los Angeles International Airport.
BDG International received the call to get involved and after learning all the facts they re-routed the cargo to Miami in order to transship the cargo on Air Canada. Lan Chile was booked to Los Angeles International Airport full for days at the express level due to Asparagus and other perishables moving priority over any general cargo.
“The cargo moved express to Miami as planned,” said Lisa Waller, vice president of BDG International, “During this time the weather in Northeast and Central United States and Canada began to deteriorate. It looked as it we may have a shut down in Toronto Airport. In order to work around this we had a back up plan.”
“Then next morning when the Lan Chile flight arrived the word was already out that the airport in Toronto was shutting down,” recounted Waller, “Immediately we were on the phone with plan B. We were going to fly the cargo into Montana and truck to Calgary avoiding the storms.”

“At this point the customer stated that the cargo was now more than urgent but we had to charter a plane. The mines were loosing over one million USD per day. As of 10:30 on that Friday we had the “go” to find and charter a plane from Miami to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada.”
“Due to the distance and the urgency we were able to locate a DC-9 and had the freight on board by 18:00 same day,” said Waller, “Meanwhile, we cleared the goods through U.S. Customs, awaited its arrival from Peru, recovered the cargo at 10:30 am, brought to our designated warehouse in Miami, prepared for export, turned the cargo around for export, and delivered the shipment to the charter airline by 18:00 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (one hour north of Miami) where the charter was just available for loading.”

The carrier departed timely and as it entered the next transfer point the weather became increasingly worse. BDG could not fly the cargo direct into Yellowknife due to the fact that this is not an international customs port. Thus, they had the cargo landed in Winnipeg for customs clearance where they had people on the ground waiting. The Canadian broker cleared the goods at 01:00 am, waited for de-icing and was back in the air ASAP. Cargo arrived into Yellowknife at 04:00 and was signed off at 06:00 on the Sunday morning.
This was a successful move for all. There was not a minute wasted!
In Kazakhstan, leading global freight forwarder, Advance International Transport has relocated its Almaty office to a newer and more efficient location to better serve its growing customer base in this vital Caucasian country.
The office remains responsible for co-coordinating all export and import transport enquiries handled by Advance International, both to and from Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan has been a sleeping giant in terms of transport. Now the country is awakening and freight forwarders like Advance International can only profit from the new opportunities the country offers.
Mr Kamal adds: “The Great Silk Road has always stood for trade between east and west. Where once caravans moved slowly between China and the west, taking the finest goods in both directions, now Advance International can look forward to bringing the latest consumer goods, finished products and containers at the speed of the fastest rail wagon or road truck, along one of the world’s great trading routes.”
So how does this positive outlook translate to activity that can benefit both Advance International and its clients’ bottom-lines?

“We are seeing splendid examples of targeted investment – US builder GE has supplied 150 rail locomotives to Kazakhstan, for example. We are responding to these positive signals by real investment in the country. Just over two years ago, we re-organized our office arrangements in Kazakhstan by establishing a new dedicated office in Almaty to provide stronger customer service support for our Advantage Express Railfreight Service, between Poti in Georgia and Almaty,” Mr Kamal explained.
The Advantage Express Service offers shippers an efficient routing for any cargoes that they are moving to and from the Central Asian Republics. It has an advertised transit time of eight days between Poti and Almaty and has been extended from Almaty to the northwest Chinese city of Urumqi to provide a link from this inland region of China to the Black Sea port of Poti. On connections are available from Poti to all of Europe and the East Coast of America.

Nauri Logistics recently arranged over length shipments for fellow GPLN member Trans Trading for a German customer. The cargo was a PSA Adsorber and a purge gas drum which had a volume of 2,835 m3 with a weight of 560 mt.
“The cargo loaded in Masan, in the very southern part of the Korean Peninsula,” said Mr. J.S. Moon, managing director of Nauri Logistics, “The cargo sailed a total of 34 days to the Port of Houston where it was discharged. The goods were arranged on Rickmers since most of packages are out of gauge.”
One such piece had dimensions of 23.6m x 4.38m x 4.57m with a weight 46.5 t.
Both Trans Trading and Nauri Logistics gained their German customer’s gratitude for their good cooperation and received a letter of appreciation for a job well done!

I don’t even know where to begin!
Patrick and I just got back on Saturday from our three week journey to Munich, Tunis and Antwerp (with a one day side visit to Köln to see Southern fried rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert! – thanks again to Ralf Samorin for arranging the tickets for us!). With as many days missed in the office as I have had in a long while I can still say that this was one heck of a productive time.
Transport Logistic 2009 turned out to be a major success for us in that with nearly 48,000 visitors and hundreds of exhibitors in eight exhibition halls GPLN was the only project logistics network that was represented. Of course we saw some old friends but we made many new ones in the mean time. The visit to Munich also was reinforced what I found in Russia the month before: There are many good solid companies out there who know about the GPLN brand and view it very positively.
On the promotional front we debuted our GPLN baseball caps, which were a hit (no pun intended) with almost everyone. These caps were passed out to members who attended the annual conference as well as serious GPLN prospects and other key players in the project cargo industry. The hats are very special because on the bill (visor) of these caps are photos of moves done by GPLN members making each cap unique.
Tunis, in my opinion, was a testament to the group we have been building these past five years. Like I said to the quorum in my opening presentation, we had gathered together in our room the most experienced group of professional project cargo experts in the world. Other groups strive for what we have accomplished here and I really feel bad for the people who couldn’t make it. By all the feedback I have received the meetings went very well between the members and both of our Gold Level Sponsors, Rickmers-Linie and Beluga Shipping, were well received! (By the way, if you wanted copies of either the Rickmers or the Beluga presentations please let me know and I will try to arrange it for you. Also, if you want a copy of the Beluga project cargo handbook let me know – I will need the complete address where Beluga can forward this to you though).

Besides the great meeting I would like to give a very special thanks to SNS International and Afrimar for sponsoring the most excellent banquet dinner that we have ever had in our six GPLN meetings! Finally, off to Antwerp for the BreakBulk Europe Conference & Exhibition 2009 where I was a panelist in one of the round table discussions (regarding what happens when project cargo is held for non-payment). I found this conference greatly expanded in both space and in terms of bodies. The conference nearly doubled in visitors from 1400 in 2008 to 2600 in 2009. I met some really good prospects from other parts of the world as well such as Africa and Latin America.
For anyone who did not make it to these conferences all I can say is that some solid opportunities were there to be had. I really hope you can make these events next year. We really got lots of work done, got our names out there even more and built on our mutual relationships. I am very tired after these three weeks, but at the same time I am very positive and optimistic about the future of our group! I want to thank all of you who pitched in and made it such a great success.

Thocomar Shipping Agency will be a great addition to GPLN as their membership goes very well with our push into Africa. Besides getting four good references from well known companies on three separate continents I have also met the managing director, Mr. Michel Thoumas, in both Antwerp and in Dakar and spoken with him about his company in detail. The Links organization was established in 2000 as an in-house entity handling operations and agency for a dedicated fleet of vessels. Thomas Meyer recently left TFC Vietnam for other opportunities in a different field and he has been replaced as TFC’s representative in Vietnam by Peter Schüpbach who is a forty-one year old logistics veteran from Switzerland with twenty years in the industry.

TFC China recently employed Thomas Ofner in the capacity of sales manager at the Beijing office. Thomas is a 23 year old Austrian. He will also be largely put onto project supervision jobs starting with jobs for a major cement manufacturer.
We wish Peter and Thomas the best in their new assignments!

I was sent these pictures by Patrick Lee of GPLN member CNC Freight Services. CNC Freight recently held their year end party and all staff reportedly had a great time celebrating the outgoing year. It looks like they all had a great time!

But this isn’t the only party they will have in 2009.
“This year (2009) will be our Golden Jubilee as we are already 10 years in business,” said Patrick Lee, managing director of CNC Freight Services, “We have grown from initial staff of 4 person to a stable number of 25 people. We hope to make a big ‘bash’ and perhaps invite some GPLN members to join our celebration in Malaysia!”
The ten year celebration will tentatively held sometime in the 3rd quarter of this year. I hope Patrick sends me an invite. It will give me a reason to visit Malaysia again.
